On Wednesday, February 15, we spent the day at the eTech Ohio Conference with two of our GeoHistorian teachers, Christine Goff and Sean Mostov. We got quite a bit of traffic at our display table, and judging from those who visited us, word is getting around about the project.

The QR code marker for the former Kline’s Grocery store has now been installed by Sue Nelson at her design store on South Water Street:

Eighteen QR code markers for the stories created in fall 2011 are now ready for installation. The first ones will be put up at their respective locations onTuesday, January 10.

Our presentation entitled “Your Students Can Be Digital, Local Historians: The GeoHistorian Project” has been accepted for the 2012 ISTE Conference in San Diego. Here are the details:

Description: Learn about a project that teaches students how to create digital (his)tories for audiences beyond their classrooms, accessible via QR codes at historical locations.
After lots of recording, editing, re-recording, and re-editing, the second set of 18 GeoHistorian videos is now available online at the GeoHistorian YouTube Channel. The videos cover a wide variety of existing sites like Beckwith Orchards, Ray’s Place, and Davey Elementary School, and sites that no longer exist such as the Kent Block and Opera House.
The QR code markers are on order and will be installed soon, hopefully before winter sets in. In the meantime, here is a video to get you started. For the rest, hop on over to YouTube.
