A Cross-Curricular Approach to Data Literacy
Thinking with Data (TWD) is a cross-curricular, middle school unit designed to be used by teachers to develop students’ data literacy. It employs a preparation for future learning approach, and uses real data, to engage students in problem-based explorations of world water issues as they also learn Social Studies, Mathematics, Science and English Language Arts content. Results from field testing of the unit has demonstrated that TWD students gained significantly more data literacy skills than their control group peers, while also acquiring standards-based math and science content.
